Statue and Monument Projects

This initiative aims to provide public recognition to Detroit's heritage of significant civic and community leaders who have left legendary legacies and inspiration for future generations.

The Statue & Monument Project currently endeavors to honor the legacies of American Civil Rights Leaders such as the preeminent Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, the mother of the American Civil Rights Movement; Erma Henderson, the first female African American member of the Detroit City Council; and Martha Jean Steinberg, longtime Detroit radio personality and the first African American woman to independently own a radio station in the United States.

The Statue & Monument Project seeks to fill a great void that currently exists in the public display of accomplished and highly worthy people of historic significance in traditional sculpture, assuring future generations with the identity of their heritage.
